Turkish police detained a pro-Kurdish mayor and five other municipal officials in the southern province of Mersin as part of a terrorism-related investigation.
Hosyar Sariyildiz, a member of the opposition DEM Party and mayor of the Akdeniz district, was taken in for questioning along with his deputy Nuriye Arslan and four assembly members.
The DEM Party, which holds 57 seats in parliament, said the investigation was fabricated to justify appointing a state trustee to the local administration. (Reuters)
