Protests, public gatherings and solidarity statements spread across Hasakah province on 27 October 2026 following attacks on Kurdish displaced families who had attempted to return to their homes and properties in Tal Abyad (Gire Spi), the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
Events were held in Al-Qamishli, Al-Darbasiyah, Amuda, Dayrik, Tal Tamr, Al-Hasakah, Al-Jawadiyah, Al-Qahtaniyah and Maabada (Girke Lege), with participants demanding protection for the returnees and accountability for those behind the violence.
In Al-Qamishli, dozens gathered outside the building of the UN refugee agency in a protest organised by the People's Initiative and attended by representatives of civil organisations, students and families of victims. Participants sang the Kurdish national anthem "Ey Reqib", and a statement was read in both Arabic and Kurdish.
Demonstrators called on international bodies and the autonomous administration to guarantee a safe and voluntary return of displaced Kurdish families to Tal Abyad and other areas from which they were displaced, and to prevent armed factions from blocking property restitution. (Source: SOHR / ANF)
