Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated a nine-kilometre dual carriageway linking Shekhan with Bahadre, Lalish and nearby sub-districts on 26 October 2026, part of the Kurdistan Regional Government's infrastructure programme in Duhok governorate.

The approximately $24 million project, implemented by the KRG's NorthLight Holding, was completed ahead of schedule and is expected to improve road safety and ease travel in the area, including access to the Lalish temple, the holiest shrine of the Ezidi faith, for pilgrims from around the world.

Speaking at the opening, Barzani said the government is responsible for serving all citizens without discrimination, stressing that the Kurdistan Region is becoming more developed and prosperous despite the challenges it faces. He thanked the implementing company for completing the work ahead of time and urged residents and drivers to observe traffic regulations.

Earlier the same day, the Prime Minister met the Ezidi spiritual leader Mir Hazim Mir Tahsin Beg in Shekhan, where the two sides discussed the situation of the Ezidi community and Barzani reiterated the KRG's commitment to supporting their rights and demands. (Source: GOV.KRD / Kurdistan24)
