Iranian authorities executed at least 1,858 prisoners during 2025, more than doubling the 909 executions recorded the previous year, according to Hengaw's annual human rights review.
Kurds again bore a heavy share of the toll: at least 264 of those executed were Kurdish, and of more than 1,500 verified arrests, 47 percent were Kurdish. At least 729 Kurdish citizens were detained during the year.
The report documents a broad escalation of state violence, including secret executions carried out without notification to families and the targeting of political activists. (Hengaw Organization)
