The Islamic Republic of Iran has executed at least 800 people since the beginning of 2025, an average of around 100 executions a month, according to statistics compiled by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
Ethnic and national minorities were disproportionately affected. Of those put to death, at least 116 were Kurdish, alongside 107 Lor, 92 Baloch and 82 Turk prisoners, as well as 46 Afghan nationals.
Hengaw warned of an alarming escalation in the use of the death penalty and called on governments and international bodies to take a firm stance against the systematic executions. (Hengaw Organization)
