Ağrı Municipality Co-Mayor Memet Akkuş has passed away.

DEM Party MP Sırrı Sakık announced Akkuş’s passing via a statement on his social media account. Noting that Akkuş had been battling cancer for a long time, Sakık issued a message of condolence.

In his message, Sakık stated that Akkuş’s efforts and struggle would not be forgotten, saying, "His efforts, struggle, kind heart, and memory will continue to guide us. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, as well as to the entire city of Ağrı and our people."

He had assumed office in 2024

Following the March 31, 2024 local elections, Memet Akkuş had begun serving as Co-Mayor of Ağrı Municipality alongside Hazal Aras, who was elected Mayor of Ağrı representing the DEM Party.

Aras and Akkuş received their certificates of election and assumed office on April 3, 2024. Throughout his tenure, Akkuş participated in the Ağrı Municipality’s operations across the city.

News of Akkuş’s passing was received with sadness in Ağrı and within DEM Party circles.
