Mohammed Shukri, Head of the Kurdistan Region Investment Board, announced that the process of exporting wheat purchased from local farmers to foreign markets would begin this week.
Speaking to Kurdistan24 on the matter, Shukri stated that the companies handling the export operations had completed all necessary administrative procedures.
Shukri noted that, with shipments commencing this week, wheat from the Kurdistan Region would be delivered to international markets.
245,000 tons to be exported
Sharing details regarding export and stock planning, Shukri indicated that a total of 245,000 tons of wheat would be exported to foreign markets.
Meanwhile, it was reported that a wheat stockpile of 200,000 tons, held by the Khoshnaw and Qaiwan groups, would be retained within the Kurdistan Region to meet the domestic market's essential needs.
Local companies in the Kurdistan Region had previously concluded the process of collecting farmers' crops. It was stated that farmers were paid 400,000 dinars per ton for the wheat.
It is emphasized that through this strategy, the government aims to support local producers while simultaneously contributing surplus production to the economy via exports and safeguarding food security in the domestic market.
