Kurdish Student Becomes First from Iraq with a Disability to Win a Chevening Scholarship

Bakhtawar Barzan Abdalla has graduated from Swansea University with an MSc in Advanced Computer Science with Distinction, having become the first person with disabilities selected from the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the Chevening Scholarship programme's 40-year history.

She was also elected Students with Disabilities Officer at Swansea University Students' Union, where she advocated for accessibility and inclusion on campus.

Her achievement was widely celebrated as a milestone for Kurdish students. (Chevening Awards)
