Father of Executed Political Prisoner Babak Alipour Arrested in Rasht

Ali Alipour, the father of executed political prisoner Babak Alipour, has been arrested during a raid on his home in the northern Iranian city of Rasht, the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported.

According to information obtained by Hengaw, security forces searched the house on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, without presenting a warrant, and transferred Alipour to the Intelligence Ministry's Shohadaye Gomnam detention facility in the city.

No information has been made available on the reasons for his arrest or any charges brought against him. He has been denied access to legal representation as well as contact with his family.

His son, Babak Alipour, a political prisoner from Rasht, was executed along with Pouya Ghobadi at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on 31 March 2026, following convictions linked to his political activity.

Rights organisations say the detention of grieving relatives has become part of an escalating campaign of pressure on the families of political prisoners executed in Iran, particularly those from Kurdistan. (Source: Hengaw)
